What a great week we have had. The most exciting event for both the children and the educators was the visit from the tree surgeon who came to inspect our beautiful plane tree. The children sat and watched from a safe space while Charlie the tree surgeon used a moving rope system and safety harness to climb up into the tree with his chain saw, which was very exciting. As branches were trimmed and limbs inspected the children clapped, cheered, oohed and aahed as the work progressed. A large limb needed to be cut down, so now we have lots of logs for fire wood, sticks for playing with and branches and logs for practicing our sawing skills.
We have been exploring occupations this week too, considering what jobs we'd like to have when we grow up and with our entire dressing up box out we dressed up and had a fashion show. Each child chose their outfits, one boy was the ring master with a top hat and a lovely red blouse/shirt, another boy chose a black and red striped skirt and had part of a ketchup costume on his head, another child wore a dinosaur tail and a green grass skirt, they all showed off their wonderful outfits, moving between the seated audience of staff and other children.
We have made beads from elder branches and threaded them onto colourful ribbons, decorated wooden discs with brightly coloured chalk pens and have almost completed our wicker round house also known as ‘the igloo’ by our Little Forest Folk-ers.
Our balancing skills and core strength was tested by our slack line which was attached to 4 trees in the forest, with a rope running above the slack line to offer hand-holding balance and support. Our little ones are incredibly strong and our older children enjoyed challenging themselves and making the ropes sway and bounce as they traversed between the trees.
Thank you for coming to the forest!
